Editorial Policy
How CheckNetPay creates, reviews, and maintains its content. Our standards for accuracy, transparency, and user trust. Last updated: June 2026.
Our Editorial Mission
CheckNetPay exists to give every American worker — from a first-year employee reading their first pay stub to a professional comparing job offers across states — accurate, clearly explained take-home pay information. Our editorial commitment is simple: every number we publish must be verifiable, every explanation must be honest about its limitations, and every piece of content must serve the reader's financial understanding rather than any other commercial interest.
We are not affiliated with any payroll software company, tax preparation service, employer, or financial product. We do not receive compensation for featuring or recommending any financial product or service. Our revenue comes from display advertising (Google AdSense). Advertisers have no influence over our content, calculations, or editorial decisions.
How Content Is Created
Calculator and Calculation Logic
All calculator logic is built from primary government sources — IRS Revenue Procedures, SSA annual announcements, and state department of revenue publications. We do not license tax rate data from third-party aggregators. Every tax parameter is traced to its official source document, which we cite on our Sources page. The methodology behind every calculation is documented on our Methodology page.
Calculation code is reviewed annually before January 1 of each tax year to incorporate the new year's parameters. Interim updates are made if states change rates mid-year (uncommon but possible) or if the IRS publishes corrections.
Blog Articles and Salary Guides
Our salary breakdown articles are written based on the verified tax calculations produced by the same engine that powers our calculator. No article publishes take-home pay figures that have not been cross-verified against our calculation engine. Where we include cost-of-living information, housing costs, or city-specific data, we note the approximate nature of those figures and the sources behind them.
Articles include:
- A visible publication date
- The tax year the figures apply to (currently 2026 for all active content)
- A disclaimer linking to our full disclaimer page
- FAQ sections addressing the most common user questions about that specific salary and state
State Pages
State-specific calculator pages display key tax facts sourced from official state publications. The "Also Popular" state navigation links are generated from actual page traffic data, not paid placement.
Accuracy Standards
What We Verify Before Publishing
- Every tax rate traced to its official government source
- Every bracket threshold confirmed against the relevant IRS Revenue Procedure or state publication
- Per-paycheck calculations independently cross-checked against IRS Publication 15 withholding tables
- State-specific figures verified against state withholding guides for the current tax year
Known Limitations We Disclose
Our calculator produces estimates, not guaranteed withholding amounts. Actual paycheck deductions depend on your W-4 elections, benefit elections, employer-specific payroll systems, and individual circumstances we cannot know. We disclose these limitations on our Disclaimer page, in our Methodology, and on the calculator itself.
We do not:
- Calculate tax credits (Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Credit, etc.)
- Account for itemized deductions
- Model local/city income taxes in our main calculator (though we note them in relevant articles)
- Provide advice on W-4 elections, tax strategy, or financial planning — we are a calculator, not a tax professional
How We Handle Errors
Tax calculations are complex and parameter changes are frequent. Despite our best efforts, errors can occur. When we identify or are informed of an error:
- Verification: We confirm the error against the primary government source within 24 hours of notification
- Correction: We correct the calculator and any affected articles immediately upon confirmation
- No silent corrections: Material errors (those that produce meaningfully wrong take-home figures) are noted in the affected article with the correction date
- User notification: For significant errors affecting many users, we update the site with a correction notice
To report a potential error: hello@checknetpay.com
Update Schedule
- Annual (November/December): Full update of all federal tax parameters for the coming year, based on IRS Revenue Procedure publication
- Annual (November/January): State tax rate updates as state legislatures confirm rates and departments of revenue publish withholding guides
- As needed: Mid-year corrections if states change rates or the IRS issues corrections to published parameters
- Content freshness: All articles display their publication date. We review and update articles when the underlying tax parameters change.
Advertising and Commercial Relationships
CheckNetPay displays advertising through Google AdSense. We have no control over which specific ads appear — Google's systems serve ads based on user context and advertiser bids. We do not accept sponsored content, paid article placements, or advertiser influence over any content, calculation, or editorial decision.
We do not have affiliate relationships with tax software, payroll services, financial products, or any other commercial entity. We do not receive referral fees for directing users to any service. If this changes, we will disclose it prominently.
Independence
CheckNetPay is an independently operated website. We have no institutional affiliation with the IRS, any state tax authority, any payroll company, any financial institution, or any government agency. We are not lawyers or Certified Public Accountants. Our content is educational — it helps users understand their paychecks. It is not tax advice. For decisions with real financial consequences, we encourage users to consult a qualified tax professional.
